New Long Term Care Home Coming to Richmond

Vancouver Coastal Health prepares to build a new care home with more than 150 beds. Richmond Lions Manor-Fentiman will be a new eight-storey campus of care and will offer a total of 144 long-term care beds and 14 hospice beds. It is expected the construction manager will be chosen by fall 2024 and construction is anticipated to begin in 2026. ---- “People in Richmond and across B.C. deserve good health care at every stage of life – and that’s why improving high-quality long-term care is a top priority for our government,” said Premier David Eby. --- Kelly is learning that in the coming months, there will be a citizen advisory group. When our office has the call for applicants, we will share with you so please stay tuned. For more information, visit: https://news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2023PREM0037-000999

Safer Communities, A Richmond for the Future

The Government of British Columbia is investing $8,181,909 and the City of Richmond is contributing $3,467,100 to support the reconstruction of the No. 3 Road South Drainage Pump Station. This funding announcements will ensure our city is even more prepared to handle the impacts of climate change and extreme weather events. Upgrades to the No. 3 Road South Drainage Pump Station, as well as flood management and mitigation supports will keep our community safe. We are quadrupling its pumping capacity and raising a section of the dike. Once elevated, the dike segment will connect with two other raised sections, resulting in over 1,200 metres of dike built to year 2100 flood-design levels. Fire Ban

We’re in wildfire season, and with the hot weather we’ve been having, it’s important to take measures to keep people safe. With the increased risk of new wildfires, a province-wide campfire prohibition will take effect at 12 p.m. PDT on Friday, July 12, 2024. Contraventions of a fire prohibition are subject to fines of up to $1,150. ---- Download the BC Wildfire app (http://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/safety/wildfire-status) for the latest updates. BC Builds

The Province’s new initiative to build more housing for people with middle incomes, will benefit from $2 billion in additional financing from the Government of Canada to help deliver thousands more homes that people with middle incomes who live and work in B.C. can afford. With the federal financing in place and through the 20 initial BC Builds sites, it is anticipated a minimum of between 8,000 and 10,000 homes for people with middle incomes will initially be built over the first five years of the program.

“All levels of government need to work together to solve the housing crisis,” said Premier David Eby. “Teachers, nurses, construction workers and other middle-income people need more housing options in B.C., and with several BC Builds sites identified and dozens of interested partners, we are well on our way to getting the additional housing they need built,” said Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Housing.
